Welcome to the heart of Siberia, an incredibly beautiful place on our planet!
Baykal is a rift lake in Russia. It is situated in southern Siberia. Baikal is the world's largest freshwater lake by volume, containing 22–23% of the world's fresh surface water. It is the world's deepest lake, with a maximum depth of 1,642 metres and the world's oldest lake, at 25–30 million years. It is among the world's clearest lakes. You will admire the picturesque landscapes of lake Baikal, traveling on the Circum-Baikal Railway - a historical route that organically fits into the local landscape. The slopes facing Baikal are very steep in many places, cut through by narrow but deep valleys, sometimes rising almost vertically above the lake. Stay in a comfortable eco-friendly hotel in the village of Listvyanka, which is located on the very shore of Baikal. Relax in the Russian bath. Next, you will have an interesting expedition to Baikal, in which, in addition to lectures and practice, you will visit the island of Olkhon.
You will walk along the ecological route along Lake Baikal. Carbonate and silicate strongly dislocated and metamorphosed rocks of the Archean and Proterozoic are common here, as well as platform terrigenous and carbonate cemented and modified deposits, often crumpled into narrow linear folds of the northeastern strike.
We will visit the Source of the Angara (observation deck) and the Chersky Stone (a path leads to the top from the cable car).
Next, you will have a sea expedition on a scientific vessel equipped with all the necessary equipment for conducting research. During the expedition you will visit the Solovetsky Islands. And upon returning to the land, you will go on a geological and biological land expedition in the northern taiga forest. You will walk along the rocky coastline, rich with biological and geological sites, which you need to get acquainted with in order to understand of the nature of the Russian North.
As part of an expedition, you will spend one day on the east coast of Onega near the peninsula of the Demons Nose. Where petroglyphs, about 5-6 thousand years old, are scattered in scattered groups on the rocks. Basically, these are images of birds (swans), forest animals, people and boats. The dimensions of the figures reach up to 4 m.
And when you return to the land, you will go along the geological route. In which you will visit the extinct Givars volcano, take the ferry to the White Mountain - the oldest marble quarry in Russia and visit the Kivach Nature Reserve
